Meet the JFCS Counselors

Connie Austin

Connie brings more than 30 years of clinical experience to her practice. She earned a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Louisville and has had specialized training in working effectively with couples and families.

Connie has past experience in substance abuse, protective services and out-patient geriatric psychiatry. More recently, her practice focus has been on family caregiver issues and geriatrics. Connie serves her clients with compassion and understanding, while working within their capabilities and their context. She currently facilitates support groups for caregivers with special concerns such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

 

Marilyn Bornstein

Marilyn is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She received a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and Counseling with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville.

Marilyn’s practice focus includes the management of grief and loss, marital therapy, anger management, depression and anxiety. She utilizes a variety of practice modalities to meet client needs including EMDR. Marilyn facilitates caregiver and macular degeneration support groups and regularly conducts specialized workshops on Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases.

 

 

Richelle Johnson

Richelle Johnson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She received her undergraduate degree from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La., and her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Louisville.

Richelle has a special interest in helping clients suffering from the effects of trauma. She is trained in EMDR and often uses a mindfulness-based approach to help clients accept their past and choose new behaviors in the present. She has experience treating depression, anxiety, interpersonal problems and lifestyle issues, such as breaking negative habits and making healthier choices.

 

Jo Ann Kalb

Jo Ann Kalb is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She has a background in pastoral ministry. Her clinical focus is working with individuals and families who are dealing with grief, loss, anxiety and depression, as well as aging and caregiving issues. She facilitates support groups for grandparents raising grandchildren.

 

Lauren Kehr

Lauren is a MSW, NASW Diplomate, and KY Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She received her undergraduate degree from Ohio University and Western Kentucky University and completed graduate school at UK.

Lauren counsels a wide variety of clients and works to help them cope with concerns or make wanted changes. Her specialties include ADHD; problem eating issues of adolescents and adults; self-esteem, anxiety, codependency, coping with unemployment and depression problems. She facilitates group therapy, family, and individual counseling. Her therapeutic orientations are psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, transactional analysis, EMDR, structural family and brief strategic therapies.

 

Katherine Loyd

Katherine is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Cambridge in England and her Masters degree from the University of Louisville.

Katherine creates a kind, safe, supportive and accepting environment in therapy and believes that this is essential to her clients achieving the successful outcomes they desire. Her therapy practice is currently focused toward adults, adolescents, couples, and families navigating transitions and life events. She also works with adult survivors of sexual abuse, anxiety sufferers, and children who can benefit from the support of play therapy to process and assimilate upsetting life experiences or changes. Katherine draws from a variety of therapeutic techniques to assist clients in their change process.

 

Mauri Malka

Mauri is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who serves as the Director of Family Services. She holds a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Louisville.

Mauri has a long history of working with people of diverse ages and cultures. Her current practice is focused on geriatric assessment, long-term care planning and family caregiver issues. She facilitates support groups and psyco-educational workshops around issues of aging, stress management, communication and dementia. She has extensive experience in the areas of cross-cultural counseling, issues of grief and loss, couples counseling, and mediation. Her work with individuals utilizes a strength-based approach that builds on competencies. Mauri was the recipient of the Practitioner Award in 2009, presented by the Kentucky Association for Gerontology.
