A Salute to International Americans

Providing programs and services for New Americans has been a part of the JFCS mission since its founding in 1908. By recognizing the honorees who have succeeded in various fields, JFCS underscores the importance that New Americans have made in our community and recognizes and spotlights the crucial role that newcomers play in creating a vibrant community.

Meet the 2013 MOSAIC Honorees

Paul Diaz – Cuban Descent
CEO – Kindred Healthcare, a Fortune 500 company with more than 2,200 locations across the US; one of the 100 most influential people in heathcare; Board of Directors, DaVita; Board of Visitors, Georgetown University Law Center; member – Business Roundtable & Wall Street Journal CEO Council; established the Paul J. Diaz Scholarship Fund at Georgetown University; involved in the initiative for Hispanic scouting.

Riffat Hassan, Ph.D – Pakistan
Professor Emerita, U of L; inducted in the U of L College of Arts & Sciences Hall of Honor; recipient of the Kennedy Center/Sondheim Inspirational Teacher Award; prolific author and one of the pioneers in inter-religious dialogue and feminist theology; founder of the International Network for the Right of Female Victims of Violence in Pakistan.

Dennis Ogbe – Nigeria
Global Community Relations Specialist – Brown-Forman; an international Paralympic Champion, both from his home country and the US; holds the American records in discus & shot-put; international advocate and spokesperson for the eradication of polio throughout the world.

Vidya Ravichandran – India
President of GlowTouch Technologies, a global IT powerhouse that provides turnkey technology and outsourcing solutions to small, medium, and enterprise-sized businesses nationwide; through her leadership, GlowTouch is on the INC 500 list of America’s fastest growing private companies and Business First’s Fast 50 local companies; leader in corporate social responsibility and philanthropy; Board member of GT Foundation, GLIP and Walden School.

Shlomit Schaal, M.D., Ph.D – Israel
Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, U of L; a vetreo-retinal specialist, she serves as the director of the Diabetic Retinopathy Service; involved in cutting-edge research in ocular biochemistry and molecular biology relating to macular degeneration and diabetes retinopathy; as a competitive swimmer, she serves on the Sports Medicine and Science Committee of the US Masters Swimming Educational Program.

JFCS will be the host of a fundraising dinner event at the Village Anchor, 11507 Park Road in Anchorage. We need at least 100 people to dine with us June 9 from 5 – 9 PM to receive ten percent of the sales of food and drink!

The Village Anchor is housed on two floors of the historic Anchorage train station. With a breezy Victorian-themed lanai and umbrella’d patios, surrounded by herb and flower gardens, restaurant and bar have become instant destinations for both outdoor and indoor dining.

It is very important to call for a reservation at 502.708.1850 and mention JFCS when booking your reservation.  Or if you just arrive at the door, please tell the host or server that you are there to support JFCS. Case Management and Coordination

Our Resource Coordination Specialist helps you identify the services, supplies and assistance you need to care for your aging family member. Our staff will assist in developing a care plan that meets the individual needs of your family member to insure safety and well-being in the home. The Resource Coordination Specialist can guide you to the resources or access them on your behalf depending on your situation. A limited amount of free respite is available to give you a few hours or a few days of reprieve.
